There appears to be no solution yet in sight in the
current crisis in the Niger Delta, how depressed
are you over the situation?
“To suggest that there is no solution is against
my faith; there is nothing God cannot do. I know
there is a solution and we are working towards it.
I am bold to let you know that some elite in the
country want to take advantage of this to get
recognition; that is why the issue of militancy has
continued. The approaches we are adopting to
end the crisis are strategic.
“To begin to tell you what we are doing will not
be okay. When you give out information, it means
you must be able to manage it. We are getting
down to the roots.”
Is your allusion that the elite want the crisis to
continue based on investigation; and are the elite
you fingered from the Niger Delta?
“The crisis is traceable to the elite from the
region and other sections of the country. They are
doing that for various reasons which are not
connected to the Niger Delta improvement.”
Why do you think that some leaders from the
zone are against federal government dialoguing
with the militants?
“I am not aware of any leader that said we
shouldn’t dialogue. The Minister of Transportation
said, ‘If you will have to negotiate issues of the
region, then call the leaders of the region, not
those who pose to be representing the region
whereas they are only representing criminality.’
That means he believes that the solution can
come once and for all without facing it on the
basis of social strategy. That the governor of Edo
State suggested that government should drop
charges of those who committed crime against
the country as object of negotiation isn’t correct;
this is promoting crime that was what I heard
them say.

legitimately or otherwise. But when there is a
government in place, we have learnt to accept
that all along. Why is it that at this time, we will
not learn to accept that? Some people think that

Read what happend to soldiers in kano
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that
about 37 soldiers were reportedly involved in an
accident along Kano-Gaya road on Friday, July
15.
There were no reports of anybody losing his life
during the incident when a military truck
conveying soldiers was involved in the accident,
but they were said to have been injured.
According to an eye witness, the incident
happened between 8 and 9am while the truck was
traveling to Dutse, the Jigawa state capital.

The sector commander of the Federal Road Safety
Corps (FRSC) in Kano state, Aminu Umar
confirmed the incident, explaining that it
happened when the military truck conveying 36
soldiers led by Major R O Alieze had a break
failure.
He said: “It was our rescue team in Widil that
conveyed the victims to the General Hospital,
Dutse where they are receiving medical attention.”
The FRSC boss however, ruled out the possibility
of any of the soldiers dieing during the incident,
explaining that such reprots were mere rumours.
In another development, reports from a human
right group revealed that at least 1,000 Boko
Haram suspects are being held in terrible
conditions
with about eight dying every month.
However, the Camerounian authority has not
responded to the allegations.

the violence this year in Cameroon, which borders
Nigeria where the Boko Haram terrorists are
located. The insurgents frequently carry out

former minister of state for Defence, Musiliu
Obanikoro, has opened up on the role of his wife
in the allegations leveled against him.
The former minister’s wife, Alhaja Moroophat
Omolola, had been arrested by officers of the
Department of State Security (DSS)
on the orders of the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC) to see if they could
find some evidence with her to prosecute the
husband.
And Obanikoro has now asked the anti-graft
agency to resist the temptation of “persecuting”
his wife, Moroophat, insisting that she remains
innocent.
He described her as “an innocent woman who has
no dealings at all with any of the businesses that
they are investigating and totally unaware of the
alleged transactions.”
Obanikoro, the gubernatorial candidate of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 state
election in Lagos also tacitly pleaded with the
anti-graft agency, explaining that she suffers
from high blood pressure and other heart-related
sicknesses,
“We are saddened by the fact that the media was
awash with false and conflicting information
about the invitation of Senator Obanikoro’s wife.
“Ordinarily, we considered ignoring these
concocted lies but for the sake of discerning and
right thinking public, hence the need to straighten
matters.
“First, Alhaja Moroophat has always been in the
country managing her businesses as against the
lie that she sneaked in last week from the United
States.
“Second, No documents were found in her
possession and the lie that she was arrested
while trying to evacuate documents is a
fabrication and can only survive in their warped
and distorted minds. It should also be noted that
the officials only came to invite her for
questioning and as against the phrase that she
was whisked away. Her driver actually drove her
in her own car to the office of the DSS.
“Third, it was shamefully reported that the DSS
were involved because there were so many armed
policemen guiding her. This is another fabricated
lie. Even when he was serving as minister, his
family never enjoyed any police protection let
alone after leaving office and as a woman who is
above board in all her dealings, she does not
need one.
“Finally, we are using this medium to call on the
officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission to resist from persecuting an
innocent woman who has no dealings at all with
any of the businesses that they are investigating
and totally unaware of the alleged transactions,”
